Stitched straight backs vs. styled braids — which is right for you?

When clients come to Done.By.V for braids, the two most common questions are: how many straight backs should I get, and what's the difference between stitched and styled? Here's the breakdown.

Stitched straight backs

Stitched straight backs (also called feed-in braids) start at your natural hair and gradually add extension hair as the braid progresses. This creates a natural-looking start at the root with length added toward the ends. The "stitched" technique means the parts are clean, the tension is even, and the style lasts significantly longer than traditional straight backs.

Virginia offers 4–6 braids at $75 and 7–10 braids at $95. Fewer braids = thicker individual braids. More braids = thinner, more intricate look. Both include the same careful technique.

Styled braids

Styled braids at $100 go beyond the straight back pattern — updos, bun styles, designs along the scalp, or custom patterns. These take longer (4h 30min) because Virginia is working from a creative brief, not a standard template. Bring inspiration photos — this is where the artistic side of the work shows.
